About me

Ko-Wei (Vivian) Chou experiences music as a way to connect with others. For her, the piano has always been more than just a solo instrument. It is a way for people to listen, respond, and share emotions. She is captivated to the moments when music brings people together, whether she is playing with other instrumentalists, accompanying singers, or performing in small community concerts, where people can communicate without words and share emotions naturally and sincerely.

Born in Taipei City, Taiwan, in 2006, Vivian began exploring the piano before she was four, guided by her mother and later trained at specialized music schools under teachers including I-Chen Lu at Taipei Municipal Dun-Hua Elementary School and Chiao-Han Liao at the Junior and Senior High Division of The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, where she developed a strong technical and musical foundation. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Professor Kathryn Brown.

Her work as a performer has taken her to stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the American Fine Arts Festival in 2017, and she has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Vratsa Symphony Orchestra in Bulgaria in 2025, performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major. She is also a prizewinner of several international competitions, including First Prize at the Japan Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, where she also received the Hamamatsu City Mayor Award in 2016. In addition, she received the Fazioli Promising-Star Selection Young Stars Award, which led to her solo debut in 2018.

Alongside her solo work, Vivian has enjoyed accompanying and collaborating with other musicians since middle school, an experience that continues to shape her artistic voice and the way she interacts with others in music. She is especially drawn to the energy and connection of making music with others and sharing it with her audiences. She believes music is most meaningful when it creates space for genuine listening and shared expression. In addition to piano, she has also played the flute and enjoys dancing in her spare time. What she loves the most is being surrounded by music and fully immersed in its energy. She hopes to share this passion and sense of warmth with her audience, and even in busy or tiring days, she hopes to keep a quiet moment to enjoy playing the piano and to reconnect with herself through music.
